| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The Panasonic HDC-TM300 Twin Media HD camcorder offers the choice of recording to the 32 GB HDD or SD/SDHC memory card, and the 3MOS system with three full-HD sensors has one of the world's highest total pixel counts. The TM300 provides high image quality for both motion and 10.6-megapixel resolution still images. And it features high 8.3-megapixel resolution for still images when recording simultaneously with motion images. You can also enjoy a 5.1-channel surround sound system with 5 microphones featuring Zoom and Focus Mic functions. The manual ring gives you easy, fingertip control over the focus, zoom and exposure settings. This lets you create images that just aren't possible with automatic functions. And the AF Tracking has been added to the iA function which automatically judges the scene and makes the best possible settings, so the TM300 keeps the subject in focus even if the subject's face turns away from the camcorder.

Proprietary video format is annoying March 25, 2010 Gary R. Mazet (NJ USA) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
So the camera is nicely sized, takes good video, all that is great.
where I run into problems is doing stuff with those videos.
My powermac G5 doesn't support it at all - need the latest version of ilife and that is not compatible with PPC. Great.
The software on windows allows me to view, but if I try to upload to youtube - it fails, says connection failed. My connection to youtube is fine. Now I gotta scour the web looking for how to get the vids up. I can't just watch the videos with windows media player, avi players like quicktime, etc. That's annoying.
Would be better if you could just get the vids.
anyone know how to play or transcode/convert MTS files?
Happy videographer March 8, 2010 Christopher Hall (Arkansas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for the express purposs of being able to videoing my wife's Orchestra and putting it online. The first concert is in a week so I cant wait. All the "playcordings" I have done with this to get used to handling it have turned out superb. I was real impressed after we had a foot of snow and I could set the w-balance where I, underline I wanted it to be to make my recordings. They turned out great. If you use it right it does show up pretty good in low light. I love the manual controls that is the reason I bought it. Stage lights suck for automatic cameras.
Unbelievable picture quality, extensive features February 1, 2010 R. O. Borgono 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great camcorder choice, if you are willing to pay the steep price. Definitely prosumer territory. Impeccable picture quality (look for some of the extensive analyses and reviews published online), great sound. Unbelievable performance in low-light conditions. Great set of features. Only drawback thus far: some may find touch screen a bit fiddly to use (no problem for me, since I am used to my touch screen phone).
Jamaica Home Videos January 31, 2010 M. VanOrden (Salt Lake City, UT USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bought this camera for our trip to Jamaica. I really like this camera. It is very portable and easy to use. The quality of the videos is amazing. I am not a avid user of video cameras but this was easy to learn. I download all videos and pictures to my PC with ease. One of the great things is the camera does not have a hard drive. It is only flash memory. Therefore, it does not have to "boot" up like a hard drive video camera. I can turn it on and starting capturing video immediately. I am VERY happy with this purchase.
Nice "B" cam January 9, 2010 Jeremy A. Stone (Harrisburg, PA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This camera is a nice "B" cam, I use it for behind the scene shots, car mounting and time lapse work. It does need a TON of light, but most small HD cams do. So with this said the outdoor shots are amazaing, indoors so so. Indoors it just wants all the light it can get, so this usually means gain city = grain city. I don't like to go above 3 db of gain, if that's not possible I turn the cam off. Not worth the card space. It takes some time adjusting to the manual controls via small buttons and touch screen, but VERY nice to have in depth manual control for a cam in this price point (iris, white balance, shutter, focus, and audio!). I've seen the footage displayed on a 50" HD display and was very pleased. The detail is amazing, I usually roll in auto focus, manual iris/ white bal, the auto focus is very quick for the most part. Again light is your friend. Make sure you get a nice ( don't cheap out, get the Century) wide angle and a polarizer. All in all it's a nice HD CAM for what your are paying for. I like the small size, and battery life (got a 4 hr batt, lasts forever), and the AVCHD workflow is a breeze in FCP. Also just as a tip, be sure to turn off the OIS if doing any tripod work. Most people forget and this results in the gryos (OIS) fighting the smoothness of a tripod. Good luck and have fun with it!
